What is some hair care advice?

  • A routine hair care always adds to improving the strength and texture of your hair. But, I will never suggest you to wash your hair more than 2 times a week, especially for people living outside India.
  • The weather and the water have a very strong impact on your hair. Never wash your hair with hot water. Always use mild-warm or cold water for washing.
  • Oil your hair at least once a week. You can choose your oil type. I no longer use my mom’s recipe unless I am at home. I use a mixture of warm cold-pressed castor oil and cold-pressed olive oil (as a carrier oil for castor) for my hair. Gently massage the warm oil on your hair and leave it either overnight or at least 1 hour before you wash it away.
  • Use a shampoo and conditioner that suits well for your hair. You will have to probably do a small trial and error method to find out the best for you. Please do not cheap out on your personal care products. I always go for good ones. Pro collections from Tresemme is a good choice and my personal favorite is Tresemme keratin smooth shampoo and conditioner.
  • Do not comb your hair a lot. Gently untangle your hair by separating them into small sections and slightly run a comb (I would suggest a hair brush rather than a normal comb) to smooth it out once you untangle the entire hair.
  • I used to do hair spas monthly once when I was in India. As these are too costly out here, I started using my own hair masks for hair rejuvenation. Ingredients : 1 egg (whole) + one spoonful honey + 3 spoonfuls yoghurt. Mix and apply throughout the hair with thorough massaging. Leave it for 30 minutes. Pass steam through the hair. Wash with a mild shampoo and conditioner.
  • Try your maximum to not dry your hair using a hair drier. Let the hair dry by itself. Never use a straightener on wet hairs.
  • Personally, I would suggest not to tie your hair when you go to bed. I am not sure if this helps, but I feel that your hair maintains its texture when you leave it free. Leave your hair open unless it is very necessary to tie it up and if it is so go for buns.
  • Last but not least, eat healthy and drink plenty of water. Keep yourself hydrated.
  • Here is how my hair looks like after the hair mask wash.
